Your Body is Your Country Print

from £9.00

Print from an original painting in oils on wood, inspired by the poem:

The Sari by Moniza Alvi.

Inside my mother

I peered through a glass porthole.

The world beyond was hot and brown.

They were all looking in on me –

Father, Grandmother,

the cook’s boy, the sweeper-girl,

the bullock with the sharp

shoulderblades,

the local politicians.

My English grandmother

took a telescope

and gazed across continents.

All the people unravelled a sari.

It stretched from Lahore to Hyderabad,

wavered across the Arabian Sea,

shot through with stars,

fluttering with sparrows and quails.

They threaded it with roads,

undulations of land.

Eventually

they wrapped and wrapped me in it

whispering Your body is your country

Printed on 100% recycled 285gsm (card weight) parchment-coloured Context Birch paper. A beautiful quality warm and earthy print. The paper has very fine inclusions in it, giving it a handmade feel.

On the back is printed the title and details of the image.

The last picture shows you the image most clearly; though the actual paper background is cream/off-white which gives the image an added warmth, as you can see in the first photos.

YOUR BODY IS YOUR COUNTRY is available in two sizes: A4 (11.7" x 8.27") and 7" x 5"

It will come packed carefully in a cellophane sleeve and a sturdy envelope.
